Child support

Children have the right to have both parents provide for their needs. We help you set, collect or update child support.

Child support (alimentos) is not just about food: it covers everything a child needs to live and grow, such as housing, health care, education, clothing and leisure. Both parents are required to contribute, according to their means.

When there is no agreement, when the amount is not enough or when it goes unpaid, the law provides tools to resolve it. A review can also be requested if the paying parent’s situation has changed.

Our team advises you and handles the claim, first seeking an agreement and going to the family court when necessary. We stand by you on a matter that touches what matters most: your children’s well-being.

How can we help?

  • You need child support to be set.
  • The current amount is not enough and you want to ask for an increase.
  • The other parent does not pay, or pays less than agreed.
  • There are arrears to collect.
  • You pay child support and your financial situation has changed.

How we support you

  1. We listen

You tell us how the family is organized today.

  2. Assessment

We review the children's needs and both parents' income.

  3. Agreement or mediation

We first look for an agreement that works.

  4. Claim and collection

If there is no agreement, or it is not honored, we go to the family court.

Useful documents

  • The children's birth certificates.
  • Receipts for the children's expenses: school, health care, activities.
  • Information about the other parent's job and income.
  • Any previous agreements or court judgment.

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything: we will go through it together at the consultation.

Frequently asked questions

What does child support cover?

Everything children need to live: housing, food, health care, education, clothing and leisure.

Can I make a claim if I don't know how much the other parent earns?

Yes. During the proceedings, reports can be requested to establish their income. Even so, it helps to tell us everything you know: where they work, what they do, what assets they use.

What happens if they don't pay?

Unpaid amounts can be claimed, and the law provides for various measures to ensure compliance. We explain which ones make sense in your case.
